Announcements Well, Field Day has come and gone, and clubs from around the area participated in this annual event. The purpose of these Field Days is to acquant the public with ham radio, and what its all about. It also is a drill of sorts to see if the hams can set up a station(s), put up antennas, and get on the air and pass message traffic. Ft. Madison, Ia. Amateur Radio Club (FMARC) came out in force again this year to represent the Iowa section, setting up 2 towers, with beam antennas mounted on each to maximize range. They also put up several wire antennas, strung between trees at the Lions shelter house area of Rodeo Park. There was morse code, phone, and new digital modes making contacts with other hams around the world, to test their skills and stay sharp. They also had a station called a "Get on the air" station, that would be in control of a licensed ham operator, that would allow ham and non-ham alike the oportunity to try out "ham radio" and experience the thrill of contacting another person from around the globe. If there are any clubs around this area that would like their news published, send us a note and we will do our best to get it on here in a timely fashion.
